October 28, 2006 Mayor visits Hamilton, Hialeah on sister city tour
A delegation headed by the mayor of Puerto Plata, Walter Musa, visited the cities of Hamilton, Ontario and Hialeah, Florida, last week on a quest to foster sister city relationships that promise to benefit Puerto Plata with educational, medical and firefighting resources. Musa was received by Mayor Larry Di Ianni in Hamilton, Ontario, in a meeting that brought together more than twenty city leaders including port authorities, prominient businessmen and representatives of McMaster University, one of Canada's leading medical schools. Mayor Di Ianni is expected to lead a Hamilton delegation to visit Puerto Plata in the new year. "This is one trip I'm sure we'll have no trouble finding volunteers for," he said. It is expected that Hamilton can lend expertise and resources in the medical and education sectors, while a close relationship with Puerto Plata can benefit that city with opportunities for investment and contract services. Walter Musa was also received by the mayor of Hialeah, which resulted in the promise of a donation of a fire truck Accompanying the mayor were city council president Frank Salvador, provincial medical director Wady Musa, journalist Manuel Emilio Gilbert, Canadian honorary consul Tim Hall and businessman Juan Carlos Morales. Musa also thanked Fred Elliot and Ralph Lean of Sun Village Resort & Spa for spearheading the Hamilton mission and attorney Enrique de Marchena for his initiative in arranging the Hialeah connection.
