City Hall honors Cofresi businessmen

City Hall has bestowed upon Fred Elliott and Alfred Meister the honorary title of Adopted Son of Puerto Plata. The honors were made in an extraordinary session of the City Council, in which president Frank Salvador presented the resolution and Public Affairs Director Manuel Emilio Gilbert spoke on the magnitude of the contributions these two men have made to the tourist industry.

Meister and Elliott, through extensive investments and a notable commitment to quality, are largely responsible for transforming quiet Cofresi into a vibrant, upscale “boutique community.”

Mr. Meister is the propietor of Ocean World, the interactive marine park that recently innaugurated its casino and world class marina facilities catering to luxury yachts.

Fred Elliott is the founding chairman of the Elliott Group which owns the 250 room, four-star Sun Village Resorts.

Tourism Ministry plans new Dominican airline

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Tourism has set the launch of a national airline, Aerolíneas Dominicanas as a basic objective for 2008, and plans to increase airport fees by US$8 and build 8,000 homes to improve living conditions in tourist areas like Puerto Plata, Samaná and Higüey. The Ministry is also proposing the creation of a new entity, the national institute for tourism infrastructure. Read the story
